Ephrata Club
Officers for 2007-2008
On June 26 the club installed its officers for the year 2007-2008 at a ceremony during the annual dinner. Carl Highland, the out going president, reviewed the accomplishments of his term and thanked the members for all their efforts and support during the past difficult year. He particularly pointed out member's extraordinary state wide effort to sell tickets for the motor bike raffle. Carl explained how the funds raised would be used to finance the various club and Rotary projects. He especially thanked Glen and Carolyn Chamberlain for the continued active role they play in the Guatemala Literacy project.
The incoming club president, Jerry
Hamley, out lined his vision for the Rotary Club of Ephrata for the coming
year. First, he said, the members should have fun. He has lined up, already,
an impressive list of programs for the coming year. The program themes are
intended to educate members about the local and regional issues. He mentioned
that the District governor is slated to be the program for July 31. Toward
the end of August Jerry plans for the three state representatives to meet
the club members. He mentioned a fund raising idea that needs involves Safeco
field; what could that be? He also encourages members to attend the various
District conferences. One of his biggest drives will be to increase Rotary
awareness. Here he intends to introduce the Rotary ABC booklet, have weekly
Rotary minute talks, get more involved in District news, and work toward a
rebuild and refresh of the clubs web site. Membership numbers at the club
are at a near all time low therefore Jerry intends to focus himself and members
on introducing Rotary to other citizens.
Jerry asks the question - why Rotary? He spoke of three points.
1: Increase knowledge of local and world issues and where Rotary might help.
2: Good fellowship.
3: Change or improve our world.
